The Paterson Urban Enterprise Zone is dedicated to drive economic growth, boost tourism and encourage local residents to support homegrown establishments. We focus heavily on revitalizing our Urban Enterprise Zone corridors for the well-being of our residents and business owners. We have implemented many initiatives to enhance the success and well-being of the City of Paterson such as: Clean Commercial Corridors, Public Safety, Solar Trash Can Receptacles, Improvement of Pocket Parks, and Restaurant Week. We have a lot more planned!

Select UEZ Businesses qualify to offer
their customers a reduced sales tax of 3.3%. This is a great benefit to your customers!
Tax Free Purchases
Save a significant amount of money on capital equipment, facility expansions, upgrades and certain personal property purchases. Up to $100,000 annually and no cap on new construction.
Financial Assistance
There are many grants and loans that you can apply for with the NJEDA to receive financial assistance. This can assist in improving and growing your establishment.
About The City
The City of Paterson has a long and proud history as the Nation’s first planned industrial City. The City was founded in 1792 when Alexander Hamilton saw the potential of the 77 foot high Great Falls of the Passaic River and formed the Society for Useful Manufactures. Using the power of the Great Falls, the City would become the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in the United States. Harvesting the flow of water through a system of raceways to power mills and factories, silk, locomotives, firearms, and textiles were all manufactured in Paterson. The City became known as the “Silk City” as a result of the prominence of the silk industry that dominated the City for many decades. The economic power of these industries based around the Great Falls built the City into one of the largest and most powerful in the northeast.
