What is the Urban Enterprise Zone?

The Urban Enterprise Zone offers numerous opportunities to registered businesses including 3 1/2% sales tax to patrons, employee tax credits, and tax exemption for operating supplies. Direct financial assistance through programs such as the Business Improvement Grant Program which extends your investment through a 50/50 matching grant, are also available. In addition, the UEZ also has matching grants available for repair and replacement of sidewalks and special incentives through the Main Street Facade Program.

You must be an Urban Enterprise Zone registered business to qualify for the Business Improvement Grant and the Sidewalk Matching Grants.

How to get started

Contact the UEZ office or the Grant Administrators to receive application materials, schedule a meeting with our staff or ask questions on available grants from the Urban Enterprise Zone.

The Process

The applicant must submit a completed application, drawings, and product information, contract cost estimates, proof of property ownership or lease and evidence of availability of matching funds. A board established by the UEZ will review your plans to ensure compliance with good standards of design and compatibility with neighboring buildings. Applicants will be responsible for securing all applicable municipal permits.
